Empowering Young People to Shape Climate Policy
The Global Youth Climate Training Programme (GYCT) is a free online program equipping young people (aged 16-35) with the knowledge and confidence to engage in international climate policy.
Why This Program?
Young people are increasingly involved in climate discussions, needing strong capacity building.
This program is a collaboration between youth activists and Oxford University researchers.
2024 Program Highlights:
Dates: September 3rd - October 1st, 2024 with a final session on November 1st (all online).
Focus: Understanding the integrity and ambition of non-state climate action (e.g., corporate pledges, city initiatives).
Bursary Opportunity: Five admitted applicants can receive up to £3,000 to attend COP29 (application opens in September)
Program Details:
Sessions will be held between 1-5 PM UTC, with recordings available for missed sessions (except interactive workshops).
Weekly quizzes (pass 4 out of 5 for a certificate).
Priority for bursaries will be given to those from diverse regions and most-affected areas.
Program History (2023):
Provided training on UNFCCC negotiation tracks to over 4,500 young activists from 177 countries.
Offered in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Recordings are available for free on YouTube.
